Today I learned how to Down Sample an image using Photoshop CS5. To celebrate this momentous occasion I have decided to post a before and an after image of my Down Sampling prowess.
Here's the image at original size:
Its properties are 2048 X 3072 pixels.
Here's the new Down Sampled Image:
Its new properties are 760 X 1140 Pixels.
These images don't look very different from each other, but the second one has been downsampled. Among other things this technique allows the second image to load faster because there is less information for your computer to process when it's loading up the picture on your screen. The other side effect of this process is that at a higher zoom level the second picture looks more pixelated.
I created this picture by going to Image Size and making sure that the constrain image checkbox was clicked. I then changed the pixels to the above indicated amounts. Finally I selected the Bicubic Sharper option in the interpolation settings box.
Well, there you have have it. My first attempt at Down Sampling an image and playing with interpolation.
Good Stuff.
